CUKARI is an independent jewelry brand focused on 925 sterling silver jewelry for men and women.
We started with a simple preference for silver jewelry that has some character to it. Not everything has to be large or complicated, but we do like pieces that have a little more to say than a plain accessory.
That is why you’ll find quite a range in our collections. There are simple silver rings and earrings, but also heavy men’s bracelets, carved Thai silver pieces, Cuban links, gemstone jewelry and designs with more noticeable details.
Some are easy to wear every day. Others are the kind of piece you put on when you want people to notice it.
How We Choose Our Jewelry
A product doesn’t become part of the CUKARI collection simply because it looks good in a photograph.
We look at the design first, of course, but there is more to it than that. We consider the proportions, the weight, the details, the finish and, for bracelets in particular, how the piece actually sits on the wrist.
We are involved in the design and selection of the jewelry in our collections.
Sometimes that means developing a particular design from the beginning. In other cases, we start with an existing idea and make decisions about the details, materials or finish before it becomes a CUKARI product.
We also have to like the piece ourselves.
That sounds obvious, but it matters. Jewelry is something people keep for a long time. We would rather add fewer pieces to a collection than fill it with designs that don’t really have a reason to be there.
Why Silver?
Silver has always made sense to us.
It has a nice weight to it, it works with very different styles, and it doesn’t need much explanation. A simple silver ring can look just as natural with everyday clothes as a heavily carved bracelet can with a more rugged outfit.
We use 925 sterling silver for our jewelry. The material is made with 92.5% pure silver and additional metals that give it the strength needed for jewelry.
It also changes with use.
Some customers like their silver bright and polished. Others prefer the darker look that develops over time, particularly on vintage or oxidized designs.
Neither is really right or wrong. It comes down to how you like your jewelry to look.
Working With Experienced Manufacturers
CUKARI is not a jewelry factory.
Our production is handled by manufacturing partners who have been working in the sterling silver jewelry business for more than 20 years.
We work with them on the pieces we select and develop, while CUKARI remains responsible for the design direction, product selection and quality standards.
That arrangement gives us something we value quite a lot: access to experienced silver jewelry makers without trying to pretend that everything happens in one CUKARI workshop.
Different pieces require different skills. A heavily carved bracelet, a fine ring and a pair of small earrings don’t necessarily need to be made in exactly the same way.
Our job is to know what we want the finished piece to look like and to make sure it meets our expectations before it reaches a customer.
Checking the Details
We pay particular attention to the things that aren’t always obvious in a product photograph. The clasp should work properly. The measurements need to be accurate. The finish should be consistent with the design. Carved details should remain clear, and the piece should feel as substantial as it is supposed to feel. Handmade silver jewelry will naturally have small differences from one piece to another. A tiny change in texture or finishing isn’t necessarily a problem. In fact, it is often part of the reason people choose handmade jewelry in the first place. But handmade doesn’t mean that anything goes. We still check the pieces we sell and expect them to meet our quality standards.
Traditional Silver Craftsmanship
Some of our jewelry uses Thai silver craftsmanship and traditional techniques.
You can see this particularly clearly in our carved and textured bracelets. The darker areas, raised patterns and small details give the silver a different appearance from a completely polished piece.
We like that contrast.
It makes the jewelry feel less uniform and gives some designs a more aged, almost collected-over-time appearance.
Not every CUKARI piece follows this approach. We also have cleaner designs for people who prefer something simpler.
Jewelry for Different Styles
There isn’t really a typical CUKARI customer.
Someone may come to us looking for a heavy silver bracelet. Another person may be looking for a small pair of earrings or a ring that they can wear every day.
Our men’s collection includes Cuban and curb bracelets, braided designs, Thai silver, vintage-inspired pieces and larger statement styles.
Our women’s collection includes bangles, gemstone bracelets, rings, necklaces, hoops and earrings.
We also make matching pieces for couples.
The common thread is the material and the way the jewelry is made, rather than one particular fashion style.
Before Your Jewelry Arrives
Because we sell online, we know that customers can’t pick up a bracelet and try it on before ordering.
We try to make that part easier by providing measurements, weights where available, photographs, size information, care instructions and customer reviews on our product pages.
For bracelets, sizing is especially important. A bracelet that looks great but doesn’t fit properly isn’t a good purchase.
